Ferret Bedding and any other ways to make ferret things?
1. What ferret bedding is best to use? (not the litter...i have decided on yesterday's news) I was just going to put down newspaper for bedding, but i was told you can't just do that. If it makes any difference, i am getting the Ferret Nation 2-Story 142.
2. If 1 level i am going to make the level for playing and have beds and stuff do i need bedding? (If i put down blankets and cloths)
3. On ebay i see ferret bedding sets with beds, Sleeping Bags, and hammocks, how do i make these things? (I know 1 way to make a hammock) Please tell me how to make a bed or Sleeping Bag or something else. (or if you know another way to make a hammock that doesn't include sewing)

1. The bedding should be blankets, old clothes, hammocks, hanging fabric cubes, and other things of the like. You don't need to cover the entire bottom of the cage with wood shavings or Carefresh, if that's what you have in mind. The cheapest bedding that I've found are those by SuperPet (even though they're the cheapest, they are still good) on http://www.ferret.com (again, I mean hammocks, hanging cubes, etc.). You can also check the dollar store for baby blankets or use old blankets, sweatshirts, or other clothing you have around the house.
2. Again, I'm assuming you're thinking like a hamster or other rodent cage, where the entire bottom is covered with something like Carefresh. If this is what you're referring to when you say "bedding," then no, you don't need it.
3. If you know how to use a sewing machine and have some basic sewing skills/knowledge, then making your own ferret bedding isn't that hard to do. I started making my own and it's a lot cheaper than buying already made bedding. I like to use fleece - I'll usually use two different pieces of fleece (one with a print or pattern, the other a solid color; you can obviously do yours anyway you'd like) for each piece of bedding. Fleece is nice because it's soft and cozy, you don't have to worry about your ferret snagging their nails on it, and it doesn't fray at the ends. It's kind of hard to explain how to make the stuff (but I'm gonna try!) - I just used the already made bedding that I have as a guide. Hammocks are easy - cut two pieces of fabric any size you'd like, put the right sides together and sew all the way around, leaving a small opening so you can pull the right sides out, then hand stitch the opening shut. For hanging, either use grommets or you can use scrap fabric to make loops (these should be sewn in when you are sewing the two pieces of fabric together). Then, use hooks to put in the grommets or fabric loops - I bought a 12 pack of curtain hooks from Lowes for $1.66. A hanging cube would consist of six squares (12 total, if you use two different fabrics for each piece), all the same size - you would sew four of the squares together, end to end, so that you end up with a loop basically. Then, sew one end of one square to the side of one of the two remaining squares; sew the ends of the other three squares (the rest of the "loop") to each of the three remaining sides of that square; repeat on the other side with the last remaining square. Tunnels are easy to do - cut two pieces of fabric to whatever size you want (both pieces the same size), put the right sides together and only sew two of the ends (the ends should be parallel to each other), flip the fabric so that the right sides are showing, then fold in half so that the two un-sewn edges are together (make sure the fabric that you want to show on the outside is not showing), then sew the un-sewn edges together, and flip the fabric so that the right sides are now showing. Use the grommets or scrap fabric loops, add some hooks, and you have a hanging tunnel. LOL, do any of my directions make sense? Sorry, but it's hard to explain how to sew something. There's other things that you can make, too, like round "cuddle cups" and sleeping bags, but I won't try explaining those now. If you have basic sewing skills, buy some already made bedding and use those as a guide. You don't really need patterns, all pieces are made with squares and/or rectangles (and circles for the "cuddle cups") and can be cut to whatever size you want.
